Five clever ways to give up sugar to lose weight faster

When you're trying to lose weight, it's perfectly normal to add foods with natural sugar (i.e. fruit) to your diet. The problems start when you eat more added sugar than you need. And here's how to avoid it.
Laura Burak, MS, RD, founder of GetNaked® Nutrition and author of “Smoothie Slim Down,” explained how you can cut out added sugar while losing weight. There are five clever ways.
Instead of foods with added sugar, eat foods with natural sugar and nutrients. For example, instead of ice cream, cookies, and candy, you can eat fruit.
Try to sweeten foods in a healthy way. You can add cinnamon or cocoa powder to a cup of coffee, fruit and vanilla extract to a smoothie, and your favorite type of nut butter to dates.
Avoid sweetened drinks. They have a lot of sugar. It is also useful to eliminate sports drinks, sodas, juices, and drinks from coffee shops from your diet. Drink mostly plain water, sparkling water, unsweetened teas, and coffee.
Read labels more carefully. You may not even suspect how much sugar is hidden in different foods. Choose brands that are low or no added sugar. Added sugars may be listed on labels as brown sugar, honey, raw sugar, molasses, syrup, fruit juice concentrates, corn sweetener, invert sugar, malt sugar.
