Five foods help boost immunity while improving gut health

Actively working intestines and strong immunity are especially important in the cold season: thanks to them, we become better protected against infections.

The intestine plays a central role in supporting the immune system – its mucosal surface forms important physical barriers against foreign antigens. According to the available data, the immune system fights pathogens better when the intestinal flora is balanced, which largely depends on nutrition.

According to the researchers, such products have a positive effect on the health of the intestines, improve the state of its bacterial flora, which helps strengthen the immune system.

Kimchi.Vitamin A, C, vitamin K2, B vitamins such as B1, B2 and B12, iron and various amino acids are all found in kimchi, one of the healthiest foods in the world. In addition, with a large amount of fiber and lactic acid bacteria, kimchi effectively supports active, healthy digestion.

Yogurt. Being one of the best sources of probiotics, it improves the intestinal flora, helps with problems with digestion.

What are probiotics: live microorganisms that promote the growth of beneficial microflora in the intestines. They also have the ability to activate immune cells and, thus, protect the body from various diseases.

What is important: monitor the expiration date – the fresher the yogurt, the higher the content of probiotics (lactic acid bacteria) in it, which improve intestinal health.

Fermented vegetables. Positively affect the immune system, as they have a very high content of probiotic lactic acid bacteria. By promoting healthy intestinal flora, they improve the body's defense against harmful substances and infections.

Cheese. Such types of cheese as cheddar, gruyere, gouda, mozzarella and parmesan contain live lactic acid bacteria. There is a special rule when eating cheese: the older the cheese, the more probiotic bacteria it contains.

Beware of pasteurized products. If a product is pasteurized, it removes live bacteria, so pasteurized pickles, cheeses, and other dairy products will not help improve health.
