Five sensations that indicate a dangerous blood clot in the leg

Blood clots in the legs are known as deep vein thrombosis – the formation of these blood clots can lead to dangerous, life-threatening consequences.
People over 60, people with overweight, heart failure and varicose veins, as well as smokers and sedentary people are statistically most prone to developing a condition called deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Experts from the NHS (UK National Health Service) reminded that DVT is a very serious disorder, as blood clots that form in the veins of the legs can break off, enter the bloodstream and travel to the arteries of the lungs. If such a blood clot blocks the pulmonary artery, pulmonary embolism occurs – a pathology with a high probability of death.
“The occurrence of deep vein thrombosis requires emergency medical care, so if you notice it, seek help immediately,” doctors advised.
Doctors talked about the sensations that indicate the appearance of a dangerous blood clot in the leg.
- Feeling of pulsation in one leg (usually in the thigh or thigh).
- Feeling of cramps or spasms in one leg.
- Swollen and hard veins that hurt when touched.
- Hot skin around the painful area.
- Enlargement, swelling of one limb.
The experts added:
“If DVT symptoms occur along with shortness of breath or pain in chest, it is recommended to call an ambulance”.
