Floating stools can be a sign of intestinal disease.

A stool that has stopped sinking is a serious reason to see a doctor.

The publication published the conclusions of doctors from the Mayo Clinic, who recommend contacting medical professionals in cases where the stool constantly floats in the water during flushing. Intestinal diseases may also be detected, experts believe.

The researchers provided data on observations of mice. In the feces of rodents that had difficulty sinking, a gas was detected, released by a certain type of intestinal bacteria.

Its increase, along with the growth of their population, was associated with a higher level of inflammation in the intestines. According to scientists, this conclusion, made in an experiment with mice, is quite applicable to the human body.

If the stool has stopped sinking, it makes sense to examine the intestines, as its condition may worsen. In particular, this may indicate a violation of the breakdown of fats and an increase in their content in feces.

In healthy people, experts noted, the stool sometimes also begins to stubbornly float in water. This can happen, for example, due to a vegetarian diet or due to the consumption of foods that stimulate gas formation.
