Growing roses is accompanied by the need to regularly care for beautiful flowering bushes. Processing, pruning, watering, feeding – there is really enough work with these beautiful flowers. Let's talk today about the recommendation to cut out old shoots from roses that are older than 4 years.
Why should it be done
The thing is that roses have a risk of contracting a very bad disease. Of course, there are no good diseases, but diaport canker of stems affects old rose shoots in particular.
The causative agent of the disease is a fungus of the genus Diaporthe umbrina. It is manifested by the appearance of bright purple spots on the stems. Affects the outer part of the bark of the stems. The damage slows down the movement of sap, due to which the shoot dries up over time.
The problem with cancer damage is that it will not be possible to save the shoot. There are no effective treatments. That is why older shoots are recommended to be cut off. Especially those older than 4 years.
