Florists told us which preparations should not be used to disinfect orchid roots after pruning

A purchased orchid needs to be transplanted. Or your home orchid needs care and treatment. In each case, you will need to inspect the root system and trim dry, rotten, damaged roots. After that, they are treated, but you need to know what you can do.

Not all disinfectants are suitable for orchids. Florists with experience in growing these beautiful flowers do not recommend using:

  • hydrogen peroxide;
  • potassium permanganate;
  • copper products.

Please note that you should not soak the roots in these preparations and leave them to stand for a certain time. If the cuts need to be disinfected, the same hydrogen peroxide is used only locally and with a cotton swab.

It is better to use systemic fungicides for disinfection. They will help avoid root rot. Such preparations may include: “Topaz”, “Quadris”, “Falcon”, etc.
