Folk signs and prohibitions of Holy Wednesday
Christians of the Eastern rite continue Holy Week – the last week of the church calendar before Easter. Today is Holy Wednesday.
On Holy Wednesday, the Orthodox remember the last days of the earthly life, death and burial of Jesus Christ. For this reason, this day is called Great or Passionate. As a rule, on Holy Wednesday, believers put their homes in order, since in the following two weeks general cleaning is prohibited, because they can cause trouble.
This day is advised to be devoted to prayer, helping family and friends.
