Only 8 Russians were allowed to participate in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris , which will perform under a neutral flag. Therefore, the leadership of the Russian Federation made a political decision not to show the 2024 Olympic Games in Russia.

The last time the Olympics were not shown on the territory of the Russian Federation was in 1984. Then the Soviet Union boycotted the Games in Los Angeles in response to the boycott of the 80 Olympics, when 66 countries refused to come to Moscow because of the USSR's invasion of Afghanistan in December 1979.
