“Forge the iron while it's hot”: how to say it in Ukrainian

The famous linguist Oleksandr Avramenko told what Ukrainian proverbs can be used to replace the Russian “iron while it's hot”. The expert noted that there are several analogues of this expression in the Ukrainian language that convey the same meaning of the need to act on time.

As the expert noted, the Ukrainian language is rich in expressions that convey the same meaning of the need to act promptly. Among them: “catch it, Peter, while it's warm”, “catch a fish while it's being caught”, “spring is beautiful once”, “Friday will never happen again” and “the blacksmith rivets while it's warm”.

Avramenko noted that the choice of a specific proverb depends on the context and which aspect of urgency one wants to emphasize.
