“Forget about Sudoku”: Scientists have figured out how to keep the brain young

A group of American scientists conducted a study that showed what measures can keep the brain young. As it turned out, there are many other opportunities for improving cognitive skills besides solving Sudoku.
A growing number of scientists are challenging long-standing assumptions that skills such as processing speed, problem solving, and the ability to recall facts and events deteriorate with age. This proves how certain hobbies and habits can accelerate or slow down brain aging.
Specialists from the US conducted a new study in which they offered ten hours of “cognitive retraining” to more than 2,800 elderly participants.
The volunteers were divided into groups: training in the use of visualization, associations to remember lists of words), reasoning (finding patterns), and processing speed (quickly identifying objects on the screen despite distractions).
