Found natural supplements to reduce “bad” cholesterol
Excess cholesterol can accumulate on the walls of blood vessels, forming “plaques” that narrow the inner walls of the vessels. Blood flow to the heart may be restricted, leading to cardiovascular disease. Experts have found a simple way to reduce cholesterol with natural extracts.
The Department of Food and Nutrition of Kamla Raja Government Autonomous College for Girls in India investigated the effects of flaxseed on the human body. Scientists selected 50 subjects who had high cholesterol. The patients were then randomly divided into two groups: control and experimental. Those in the control group received a placebo, while the experimental group received 30g of roasted flaxseed powder for three months. Throughout the study, the groups were given similar dietary recommendations, Express reports.
Consumption of ground flaxseed reduced the level of “bad” cholesterol, which causes disease, and increased the amount of “good” cholesterol, which is normally present in every body.
Researchers from Novartis Consumer Health in Germany studied the effect of another extract on cholesterol levels. This is an artichoke supplement.
For a scientific experiment, they recruited 143 adult volunteers. The results showed that people who took the artichoke extract showed an improvement in their blood cholesterol levels compared to the placebo group. Thus, the level of “bad” cholesterol decreased by 22.9% in the group that consumed artichokes as prescribed by doctors.
