Four foods to avoid after age 65

The aging body is prone to higher the risk of certain diseases and infections. Therefore, it is especially important to monitor your diet. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has named four foods to avoid. This is associated with an increased risk of food poisoning.

According to the CDC, people over the age of 65 are more likely to experience food poisoning and it is more severe.

“Older people have a higher risk, because with age immunity decreases and it becomes more difficult to fight dangerous bacteria in the body,” explains the CDC.

Experts recommend that people aged 65 and older avoid undercooked or raw animal products, such as beef, pork , chicken, turkey, eggs or seafood, as well as raw or slightly cooked sprouts.

They should also exclude unpasteurized dairy products, juices and soft cheeses. The CDC notes that children younger than 5, immunocompromised individuals, and pregnant women should also avoid these foods.
