Processing errors
Even at the stage of digging and harvesting, processing errors can cause crop damage. This refers to failure to observe the correct timing of excavation: too early or too late. Mechanical damage to garlic heads will also contribute to rapid spoilage.
Insufficient drying
After digging up garlic, it must be thoroughly and properly dried. If wet and fresh heads end up in storage, nothing good will come of it. Rot and mold will quickly make themselves known.
Storage conditions
The room or basement should be cool. Air humidity from 60%. The temperature in the room is +5 degrees. The basement will be a good place, because light does not penetrate there and there will not be high temperature, from which it can also start to germinate.
Diseases
If there are infected cloves in the heads, the risk of losing garlic during storage increases. Most often, the cause is black and green mold, neck rot and bacteriosis. To reduce such risks, you need to follow the rules for growing, watering and preparing garlic for storage.
