Experts warn: drinks containing high doses of sugar increase the risk of atherosclerosis along with thickening or hardening of the arteries.
Different types of sugary drinks consumed by humans can cause blood clots due to their effects on cholesterol levels. She reminded that small blood clots are formed in the body to prevent excessive bleeding when tissue damage occurs. However, eventually they should dissolve naturally, and if this does not happen, blood clots form, which can be dangerous. If they get into the bloodstream, they can be carried to an artery or a vessel that feeds an internal organ – this increases the probability of blockage, embolism and related serious complications.
The cardiologist stated: the constant use of sugar can increase risk of blood clot formation.
“Abuse of sweets leads to atherosclerosis. “Sugar not only increases the level of “bad” cholesterol, but also causes strong oxidative stress and inflammation, as a result of which lipoproteins become oxidized, negatively affecting the state of vascular tissue, contributing to its hardening,” the doctor warned.
The doctor added. , that in this case inflammation activates the aggregation of platelets, due to which blood clots are formed. To reduce the likelihood of hardening of the arteries and the formation of blood clots, the expert advised to control the level of sugar consumed, including not drinking too many of the following drinks:
- Fizzy drinks.
- Packaged fruit juices with adding sugar without pulp.
- Tinctures.
- Energy drinks.
The doctor clarified that large doses of sugar make the liver synthesize more “bad » LDL cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein). Its high level is associated with a tendency to venous thromboembolism, which can manifest itself as deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.
