According to the doctor- a somnologist, frequent awakening at night is dangerous if its episodes are not instantaneous, but long-lasting.
Researchers representing the Stanford University School of Medicine found that a person with a broken night's sleep becomes prone to the risk of death. The doctor also spoke about the threat of frequent awakenings at night.
“Frequent awakenings at night can really be a harbinger of severe chronic and even fatal diseases,” the expert noted.
The doctor explained: at night in sleeping people have micro-awakenings, the memory of which is not preserved. Normally, they should last more than 15 seconds.
If awakenings at night occur as often, and are quite long, this can be an alarming signal of a person's susceptibility to dangerous diseases.
“If night awakenings are full-fledged, this means that a person is constantly not in a deep, but in a superficial sleep. As a result, his body cannot recover,” the doctor said.
The doctor warned that such an awakening could indicate the presence of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, dementia, depressive disorders, and mental disorders.
