Among garden trees, the apple tree occupies an honorable place as a leader. It is the first thing that Ukrainians plant on their plot. Can you imagine a plot, garden, dacha, house without an apple tree? That definitely does not happen. It is only a pity when your favorite tree does not bear sweet apples.
The most common reasons for the lack of a harvest
The problem can be both individual and general. To determine, gardeners named the most common problems:
- Age of the tree. A young tree does not bear apples. Fruits appear 5-7 years after planting.
- Pollinators. It is best to plant 2-3 varieties of apple trees in one perimeter. If a tree grows alone, it is not pollinated to set fruit.
- Deficiencies. If the necessary trace elements in the soil are insufficient, the tree lacks the strength to form fruits and keep them until they ripen. Essential elements: B, Fe, Mn, Cu, Co, Mo, Zn.
- Impaired soil. The soil must be nutritious for the tree no less than 2.5 m deep. This is difficult to ensure, but trees must be fertilized regularly.
- Groundwater. Apple trees categorically do not like it if it is close to the root system.
- Pests. Regular treatments will avoid such problems.
- Fertilizer errors. Violating the fertilizer application cycle introduces an imbalance into the development of the tree. The main rule: spring is about nitrogen, and autumn is about phosphorus and potassium.
- Diseases. Scab, cancer, powdery mildew and other fungal infectious diseases kill the tree.
- Pruning errors. Pruning should be carried out carefully, as the procedure is traumatic. Only diseased, weak branches directed vertically and those growing upwards should be pruned.
- Wrong variety. The problem can occur if the apple variety is not zoned. Some varieties bear fruit every year, that is, periodically with an interval of one year.
