Gardeners shared an effective procedure for treating a hollow in a tree

Certain physiological stresses can lead to the fact that a tree develops a hollow. It does not always make sense to carry out treatment, but this issue is addressed in especially valuable breeds. It must be said right away that this is not a simple procedure, and the result will not be instant either. On the other hand, with treatment, the tree can live for many more years, and the fruit trees will be able to please with harvests.
Four steps in treatment
First of all, you need to clean the edges of the hollow. The dead bark is cleaned off. This is done with a sharp garden knife, previously disinfected.
The next stage is disinfection. Fungicides are used for this. Every crack and crevice must be lubricated abundantly, so as not to leave any chance for pathogenic bacteria to multiply. This can be iodine solution, 3% copper sulfate solution, brilliant green, iron sulfate at a concentration of 5%.
Reinforcing a hollow
After processing, you need to wait for the surface to dry. Do not proceed immediately to sealing, because the desired disinfecting effect will not be obtained. At least 20 minutes should be given to the solution to act and be absorbed by the wood.
Now you can proceed to sealing. For this, ready-made garden mortar is used, but it takes a lot, or a special mixture is made, which is more reliable. Cement must be mixed with sand in a ratio of 1 to 3. It is diluted with water to a consistency that will hold and not spread. At the same time, the mass should mold well and adhere to the wood. The solution must be filled into the cavity to the edges. The edges are then reinforced, for example, with broken bricks.
Also, the seal can be made in the following composition: lime, cement, sand in a ratio of 1:1:6. The solution is made in the same way, but before pouring it, broken bricks or crushed stone are poured into the cavity. If the hollow is large and the filling area is wide, reinforcement can be used for the base.
To prevent hollows from forming, regularly protect the tree trunk from UV rays and frost. And don't forget to whitewash every autumn and treat it against pests.
