Regular consumption of green tea can reduce the risk of developing diabetes. This is the conclusion reached by researchers from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China.
The habit of drinking green tea not only has a beneficial effect on waist size, but also reduces the risk of diabetes. We are talking about type 2 diabetes – a huge challenge for the entire global health care system, because according to scientists' forecasts, 693 million people will have this metabolic disorder by 2045.
Diabetes significantly increases the likelihood of heart attacks, strokes, blindness, kidney failure failure and limb amputations, it is the world's leading risk factor for premature death.
Chinese scientists conducted a meta-analysis of 27 studies, which showed that drinking green tea has a positive effect on fasting blood sugar levels. But green tea did not affect the concentration of insulin in the blood – this test determines the amount of sugar or glucose attached to hemoglobin.
Chinese scientists analyzed the amount of information that covered 2194 people. The results show that green tea significantly reduces fasting blood glucose.
Even in the short term, green tea supplementation reduced this indicator, and in the long term, the effect of green tea on glycemic control was even more pronounced. Green tea contains many effective components, including antioxidants, vitamins, proteins, minerals, and flavonoid-like polyphenols.
