He used more than 800 bales of straw: a man from Volyn has been building an eco-house for five years
0 < Oleksandr Guch, a resident of the village of Derno, Lutsk district, has been building a two-story eco-house from straw for five years. The frame of the house is made of wood, and the walls are made of straw.
How many materials were used, whether the building will be energy-efficient and what remains to be completed, Oleksandr Guch shared his experience with Suspilnyi.
“During the day, when it's hot outside, the house stays cool. During the day, the walls warm up a little, and in the evening the house feels warm inside. The balance is maintained here,” says its owner about the house.
The idea of building a straw house arose a long time ago, says Oleksandr. It has been under construction since 2019. He was helped to design an eco-house by a friend who is a civil engineer by profession, Serhii Stasiuk.
According to him, such a house has a lot of advantages – heat insulation, noise insulation. Among the disadvantages is the flammability of the material, but if it is properly decorated and plastered with clay on both sides, everything will be fine, says Serhiy Stasyuk.
Straw needs to be plastered on both sides so that it is less flammable , and the house was protected from fire. Society Lutsk Oleksandr Guch used more than eight hundred bales of straw to build the house. He says that rye sheaves are best, rodents don't like to eat them. The roof was made of metal profile, windows and doors were installed.
“The first floor is all rye, and the second floor is made of various straws. There is oat and wheat, because there were places that were torn off, I raked out and re-tamped other straw,” says the man.
Electricity has already been installed in the house, sockets have been installed, water supply and sewage have been connected, a warm floor has been installed and the ceiling has been insulated .
As the associate professor of the Department of Construction and Civil Engineering of the Lutsk University Orest Pakholiuk said, among the advantages of such a building are environmental friendliness, cost and speed of construction. He says: there should be a technological coating of clay or it should be renewed every year.
A lack of money prevented the completion of the construction of the eco-house this year, Oleksandr says. As of mid-August, almost a million hryvnias were spent on the construction of the house. In the future, the owner plans to install solar panels or a windmill on the roof. Meanwhile, he says, he and his wife have planted a garden on the outskirts, grow fruit trees and soybeans.
