Deficiency iron is the most common nutrient deficiency, putting millions of people at risk of anemia and other complications.
Iron is the most important dietary mineral involved in a number of biological processes in the body – primarily, the mineral ensures the transport of oxygen in the blood .
All body organs need oxygen for normal functioning, so iron deficiency can have numerous unpleasant health consequences. What's interesting: some beverages that people willingly consume contribute to increasing the problem of iron deficiency.
“Consumption of such healthy beverages as tea and coffee at the wrong time can contribute to health problems by interfering with the absorption of iron.” .
Experts state: studies show that people prone to iron deficiency in the body and iron-deficiency anemia may benefit from avoiding coffee and tea during meals. Scientists note that tea and coffee (as well as wine) contain tannins that reduce iron absorption by binding to the mineral and removing it from the body. For example, a cup of coffee, which was the hamburger request, reduces the absorption of iron from his patty by 39%, and a cup of tea – by 64%.
Another component of tea and coffee that can potentially interfere with the absorption of iron is polyphenols. They consist mainly of chlorogenic acid, which is the key active ingredient in coffee, cocoa and some herbs.
According to scientists, it is better to drink coffee and tea before meals – for example, an hour or two later.
