Heart, brain and psyche: who is good for coffee and who is not
0 < p>Does coffee harm the heart, but does it help the brain? Science disagrees. However, positive studies are becoming more common. For whom does the favorite drink have a positive effect?
Should we drink coffee? Many feel guilty about their health. The belief that caffeine is a burden on the heart and a risk factor for heart attack and stroke runs deep. Therefore, coffee-aholics should be especially pleased with the latest discoveries: studies confirm that a hot drink has a much more positive effect on the brain, metabolism and even on the heart and blood circulation.
However, there are limitations. Not everyone can tolerate black liquor and its active ingredients, especially caffeine and chlorogenic acid. This applies not only to children, who do not like this “bitter broth” anyway. Some adults are not genetically adapted to drinking coffee. However, more often than not, the question of quantity is whether coffee causes a racing heart or stomach ache. Quality also plays a role: those who pay attention to high-quality beans get more than just taste benefits.
Coffee and health: what the research says
Scientists from the University of Edinburgh published the results of 201 review studies of coffee and health in the British Medical Journal. They found 19 positive health effects. On the contrary, there were only six negative effects. The study states:
“Coffee is a complex mixture of more than 1,000 bioactive compounds with potentially therapeutic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects.”
The best time to coffee
Neurobiologist Steven Miller from Maryland (USA) believes that drinking coffee at the wrong time does not have a stimulating effect. When the body's cortisol levels, and therefore natural levels of alertness, are at their highest between 8 and 9 a.m., there's little caffeine can do. According to Miller, it looks like noon to 1 p.m. and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Therefore, the ideal time for an invigorating cup of coffee is in the morning from 9:30 to 11:30.
