Heavy snacking before bed can lead to serious disorders

According to the doctor, heavy snacks shortly before bedtime contribute to the emergence of serious health problems, including diabetes and cardiovascular disorders.

The doctor said in an interview that when eating, the digestion process is turned on, which is generally quite long, consisting of several stages with the movement of nutrients to different parts of the gastrointestinal tract and their assimilation. It lasts the longest when a person eats food rich in protein and fat.

“If a person eats at night, the body has to abandon the work already built by nature on recovery and renewal, which occurs during sleep. Instead, it takes on the process of digestion, spending its resources on this to the detriment of basic physiological processes,” the doctor explained.

The doctor noted that heavy snacks in the late hours prevent the body from fully recovering, building immunity, and synthesizing hormones (it does all this while sleeping). The consequence of the habit of eating before bedtime can be disorders that lead to the development of diabetes, vascular and heart pathologies.

In addition, when a person eats and then assumes a horizontal position, this leads to the appearance of reflux, in which the contents of the stomach enter the esophagus and burn, injure its delicate tissue.

The specialist advised eating at least two or three hours before bedtime. If hunger increases with the onset of night, you can eat some light protein food – a protein omelet, cottage cheese or yogurt without sugar, a piece of boiled fish, the doctor said.
