High cholesterol: 4 drinks to lower it

A high level of “bad” and total cholesterol increases risk of heart disease and stroke. This is because cholesterol can build up on artery walls and restrict blood flow to vital organs, such as the heart and brain. Proper nutrition plays a crucial role in lowering cholesterol. Certain drinks can also help to avoid dangerous conditions.

Green tea

It contains the highest levels of antioxidants known as polyphenols. Researchers believe that these compounds in green tea prevent the absorption of cholesterol in the intestines and increase its excretion from the body. A meta-analysis based on 31 studies and published in the journal Nutrition found that green tea consumption significantly reduced total and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol in both normal-weight and overweight people.

Berry juice

Berries help reduce the level of LDL cholesterol in the blood, some of them are more effective due to their properties. In a study conducted by the University of California, Davis, experts found that blackberries were more effective, followed by raspberries, blueberries and strawberries. Regular consumption of these berries or their juice can have a positive effect on health.

Cherry juice

Cherries are rich in antioxidants and have a number of benefits. However, in the store you should pay attention to the naturalness of the composition of the juice. Scientists from the University of Michigan using an experiment on rats found out that the consumption of cherries is associated with a lower level of cholesterol.

Ginger tea

Ginger for centuries used medicinally to treat health problems such as nausea and diarrhea. Preliminary studies also show that it may help lower triglycerides, “bad” cholesterol, and total cholesterol, as well as prevent atherosclerosis. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, it is recommended to consume no more than 4 grams of ginger per day. It should also be remembered that ginger can cause heartburn.
