High cholesterol: signs on the face that warn of danger

In the body every person has cholesterol, which is a yellowish-white waxy substance that is present in every cell of the body. Cholesterol supports the normal functioning of the body, and also plays an important role in the production of hormones and the function of the digestive system.

Cholesterol is divided into two general types: “bad” or low-density lipoproteins, and “good” – high-density lipoproteins. When the level of “bad” cholesterol reaches high levels, there is a danger to health.

High cholesterol may not manifest itself until it is too late. However, certain symptoms can occur on the face.

One of the most obvious signs are soft, yellowish growths known as xanthomas. According to experts, they may indicate a genetic predisposition to cholesterol problems. These painless formations usually appear on different parts of the face, including in the corners of the eyes. Quite often, they develop symmetrically around both eyes.

When such symptoms appear, you should immediately consult a doctor.

Unfortunately, most people do not experience any symptoms that indicate high cholesterol in the blood , so the only way to measure its level is to do a blood test. In addition, it is important to reduce the amount of fat in your diet, especially saturated fat.

They are found in large quantities:

  • in meat pies, sausages and fatty meats ;
  • butter, lard and ghee;
  • cream and hard cheese, such as cheddar;
  • cakes and cookies;
  • food containing coconut or palm oil.
