In his Easter greeting, the head of the UGCC His Beatitude Sviatoslav compared Ukraine to the crucified Jesus Christ and noted that the resurrected savior contains the revelation of the secret of human earthly suffering and the path, even the meaning of human death.

“Today we feel that Ukraine is crucified on the cross together with Christ. The Savior himself suffers in the body of the Ukrainian people. It gives meaning to our suffering and becomes the source of our resilience, the vitality to win. Yes, today Christ even dies in the body of our soldiers on the battlefield. Today he is being tortured in Russian captivity, he is being mocked, he is being spat on once again by all those who deny the dignity of man in the modern world,” said His Beatitude Svyatoslav, quoted by the UGCC website.
