Scientists have developed a technique that can be turned into a vaccine or a one-time treatment for HIV/AIDS . The honor of its creation belongs to researchers from Tel Aviv University.
Although there is still no cure for HIV/AIDS, there are effective treatments that have improved the lives of many patients. The main treatment for HIV is antiretroviral therapy, which involves taking a combination of drugs every day to stop the virus from multiplying. These drugs cannot cure HIV, but they help patients live longer and healthier lives. Scientists and health experts around the world are working to find the definitive cure for HIV/AIDS.
Researchers from Tel Aviv University have developed a unique new treatment method that can be turned into a vaccine or a one-time cure for HIV/AIDS. The new method uses type B white blood cells that are genetically modified inside the patient's body to secrete anti-HIV antibodies in response to the virus.
The new method uses the cause of the disease to fight HIV. When the engineered B-cells encounter the virus, it stimulates and prompts them to divide, so scientists use the very cause of the disease to fight it. Moreover, if the virus changes, the B cells will also change accordingly to fight it. The first-ever drugs that can develop in the body and defeat viruses in the “arms race” have been created.
The authors of the technique believe that their innovative technique, which can defeat the virus with a single injection, will lead to significant improving the condition of patients. Using the new technique, researchers expect to be able to more effectively treat other infectious diseases and some types of cancer caused by viruses, such as cervical cancer, head and neck cancer, and others, in the coming years.
