Take paper towels to soak up any residue. But do it very carefully, do not rub it into the carpet, because then you will have to clean it for a long time.

After that, apply a soapy solution to the carpet. Make it yourself. Take  a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid, dilute it in two glasses of warm water, add one tablespoon of vinegar to it.
