How and when can you pour boiling water over currants?
1
Many gardeners who grow currants are trying to figure out this issue. The berry crop is valued by summer residents, but the plant requires care and often gets sick. Powdery mildew is one of the diseases of currants.
Details
Currants are usually watered with watercress in early spring, when the snow has just melted, but the plant has not yet woken up from hibernation.
However, summer residents who live in warm regions where winters are mild and there are no long frosts, refuse this procedure.
The fact is that during such winters, currants do not go into deep hibernation and quickly wake up after the snow melts. Therefore, in this case, boiling water can damage the swelling buds. Then you should not count on a solid harvest.
Therefore, boiling water is needed only after a winter with severe and long frosts. In this case, it will be beneficial. But in recent decades, the average temperature in winter has been much higher than half a century ago.
