How appearance affects life expectancy: scientists have answered what is the secret of longevity
0
American scientists from the Arizona State University and the University of Texas discovered a connection between appearance and longevity. Research results, published in the journal Social Science and Medicine, show that people with a more attractive appearance have a longer life expectancy.
Scientists analyzed data collected over 65 years. More than 8,300 people participated in the experiment. The researchers compared the participants' beauty ratings, made by independent experts based on their photographs, with mortality data.
As a result, men who were listed as least attractive lived a year less than those who were considered handsome. And for women, this difference is even greater. Those who were judged to be good-looking lived two years longer than others.
Moreover, the researchers found that the less attractive individuals were 16.8% more likely to die. At the same time, the scientists added that currently the relationship between attractiveness and longevity has not been fully studied. However, they are convinced that external beauty often depends on a person's lifestyle.
From this it follows that proper nutrition, sports and giving up bad habits affect appearance, and at the same time, life expectancy.

Arizona State University sociologist Connor Sheehan added that attractiveness often has a genetic component. He also noted that according to statistics, more beautiful people have advantages, in particular, at work, higher earnings, better treatment from others.
