How dangerous are dishwasher detergent residues to your health?

Scientists from the University of Zurich learned how the residues of industrial dishwasher rinse aid on dishes affect human health.

Unfortunately, not in all dishwashers have an additional cycle for removing rinse aid residues. That is, after such washing, residues of substances may remain on the dishes.

Scientists decided to check how these substances affect a person. They used intestinal organoids and human intestinal cells on microarrays. It turned out that high doses of rinses destroy intestinal epithelial cells, while low doses make it more permeable.

In addition, several genes and cell signaling proteins that cause inflammatory reactions can be activated. Alcohol ethoxylates are responsible for this reaction.
