Protein bars can be found in every supermarket, and not only athletes buy them. Manufacturers position them as a healthy snack or a product for weight loss.
Experts decided to find out from fitness specialists whether this is really the case.
A teacher at the Ben Weider College of Fitness and Bodybuilding, a top-level trainer, and head of the fitness department, Maxim Musayev, said that the amount of sports nutrition consumed per day should not exceed 5–10%, and in no case should it replace meals:
– Such bars, like other sports products, should be a supplement to regular nutrition, – he clarified. – If you cannot gain the necessary amount of KBJU per day with your usual diet. That's where sports drink comes in handy.
You can also use this product to replace breakfast if you can't eat properly in the morning.
Protein bars also help you gain muscle mass.
Why are protein bars harmful?
A third of the bar manufacturers studied by Roskatstvo provided incorrect information about the calorie content of their products. They significantly underestimated it.
The most caloric bar turned out to be Pikki, which covered almost 1/5 of the norm – 18.4%, while the bar with the lowest calorie content – “Healthy Snack” – only 4.06%. The bars still contain a lot of sugar. The results of the examination showed that the product has a very large range of values - from 7.9 g per 100 g to 63.6.
This also indicates that most manufacturers simply do not display data on the amount of sugar on the packaging.
