Two years ago, I fell ill after returning from a trip to South America and ended up in the hospital. Although my illness soon passed, I was told some pretty scary things. It turned out that I was 18 extra pounds, my body fat percentage was 32%, my cholesterol had risen to 203 mg/dl, and my glucose to 109 mg/dl. I had to do something, otherwise I wouldn’t last long.

I didn’t know where to start. For many years, I didn’t think about nutrition or exercise. Getting in shape after 50 is not easy. It’s much harder to lose weight and build muscle as you get older. But over the past two years, I’ve been able to improve my health. I’ve lost 18 pounds, brought my body fat down to 20%, and lowered my cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
