First, in summer raspberries, the upper parts of the annual shoots need to be cut. They have already completed fruiting, so they are shortened. Next, pruning is done for two-year-old shoots. All weak and thin ones also need to be cut. Remontant raspberries are mulched for the winter, for example, with dry straw.

How many shoots should remain?

Experts note that after pruning summer raspberries, 12 shoots should be left. They are strong and healthy. Remontant raspberry varieties are cut completely. They do not leave shoots. The crop will grow on new spring shoots. Remontant raspberries should be mulched with compost at the rate of 10 liters per 1 sq.m.
