How many times a week should you shower?

Most people are convinced that taking a shower every day is hygienic, and many believe that even twice a day – in the morning after sleep and in the evening before bed. But what do doctors think about this?

The dermatologist reminded that the skin is an immune and barrier organ for harmful microorganisms. Frequent washing with soap deprives the skin of the protective shell that beneficial microorganisms create for it. At the same time, the skin's barrier functions are weakened, and, therefore, the immune system is weakened.

The specialist emphasized: sterility is contraindicated for humans!

“Pathogenic, more aggressive microorganisms instantly settle on clean skin, where there is almost no flora. As a result, this can cause severe harm to the human body,” the doctor said.

You should shower two to three times a week, the dermatologist noted.

Previously, scientists called the use of antibacterial agents, in particular soap, a dangerous hygiene habit. Experts consider the use of antibacterial soap justified only if there are damages to the skin – scratches, abrasions, cuts. In the absence of these skin problems, antibacterial soap with daily washing only makes the body more vulnerable to infections.
