Many people face sleep problems. Lack of sleep makes us feel tired and exhausted. In addition, scientific studies show that sleepless nights lead to changes in the structure of the human brain.
The study says that lack of sleep can cause the brain to age faster. It has been proven that just one sleepless night contributes to brain aging in some people for up to two years.
In the study, experts analyzed the MRI results of 134 healthy people. Their ages ranged from 19 to 39 years. At the same time, they were all placed in different sleep conditions: complete refusal of sleep during the day, three hours of sleep per night and five hours of sleep for five nights. In addition, there was a control group, the participants of which slept eight hours per day.
It turned out that in people who were completely deprived of sleep during the day, the brain aged by one to two years. But these changes can still be reversed with the help of restorative sleep. In other groups, the brain age of the participants did not change significantly.
