Daytime sleep helps restore the charge of vitality, it seems to insert a new battery into a person. But it is very important to sleep properly and not to get carried away with this process.
Daytime sleep will help you feel rested and full of energy. It has other health benefits. One study found that daytime naps can improve memory for new information. A midday nap also makes you feel more energetic and a little emotionally recharged, it reduces stress so you're less impulsive and better able to deal with frustration.
But sleep can have its downsides. Daytime sleep for adults should last a little more than an hour, and it is probably best to limit it to 15-20 minutes. Anything beyond that, especially given the time of day, can have undesirable consequences.
No matter how tired you are, your sleep should not last more than an hour. Otherwise, you risk disrupting your sleep schedule the night before. Naps for adults should be relatively short to help conserve energy without disrupting circadian rhythms.
A short nap is important, make sure you go to bed early during the day. It may be best to take a nap early in the day, like before 2 or 3 p.m. Any later can disrupt your sleep schedule.
It's not that long naps are bad, but there are risks involved. The biggest is sleep inertia. Napping for an hour or longer increases the risk of falling into deep sleep. These stages are more difficult to wake up from, and awakening from deeper sleep cycles results in confusion. When this happens, you will wake up with a feeling of weakness – this is the inertia of sleep.
Such rest will not give you freshness. By the way, daytime sleep is not intended to compensate for lost sleep at night. While it may help reorient for a short time, it is not a long-term solution.
