How much do we overpay for beautiful packaging of beauty products and do cheap cosmetics work?

You must have wondered why in cosmetic stores you can find products that promise the same effect, only one of them will cost 200 hryvnias, and the other – about 2000 hryvnias.
Why? It is unequivocally impossible to answer this question, since many factors affect the final price of the product. What the price of the product consists of, how much we overpay for good packaging of beauty products and how effective cheap cosmetics are – read in our material.
The key factors that are directly related to the final price tag are the quality of the ingredients and the complexity of the formulation.
“For example, a serum with hyaluronic acid can contain both the acid itself and sodium hyaluronate. The acid, in turn, can be hydrolyzed, can be low-molecular, or high-molecular,” says Hanna Sharova, cosmetic chemist-technologist.
Each of the presented varieties differs from the other in the production process (somewhere it is simpler, somewhere more complicated and takes more time to manufacture), which, accordingly, is reflected in the price. The most effective cosmetics with hyaluronic acid contain several forms of the active substance, which allows it to act both in the deep layers of the skin and on its surface. For such a multi-level effect, you really have to pay many times more than for a similar product with one type of acid.
And still, the final cost depends on several factors. One of them is design. All these beautiful jars, fancy bottles, spatulas, lids and boxes (especially if they have the name of a luxury brand on them) are often half of the final price of the product. Of course, we want cosmetics not only to work, but also to please the eye, but for this we will have to pay twice or even three times more.
The appearance of The Ordinary brand on the market in 2017 was indicative. This democratic cosmetic brand is in no way inferior to the quality and quantity of luxury active ingredients, but at the same time uses simple, concise packaging. The result is an affordable price and thousands of satisfied customers.
“Actually, the price of cosmetics is 100% unrelated to its quality. Everything depends only on the active range of the product and whether the required percentage of the active ingredient is met according to the efficiency protocol,” explains the specialist.
The efficiency protocol recommends a certain concentration of the active substance in the cosmetic to achieve the desired effect. If there is enough of it, the tool will work, but if not, you should not expect an effect, no matter how much you paid for the tool.
