How much do you need to walk a day to avoid dementia in old age?

1865 steps a day reduces the risk of dementia in pensioners by 33%. Scientists from the University of California, San Diego came to the conclusion after studying 1277 women aged 65 and older.
The study participants wore pedometer devices for seven days. They were not supposed to change their usual lifestyle in any way.
It was later found that every additional 31 minutes of moderate or vigorous physical activity per day reduced the risk of dementia by 21%. 1865 steps provided a 33% reduction in the risk of dementia.
Interestingly, more sitting time was associated with a higher risk of dementia. Brisk walking can be an example of moderate or vigorous physical activity.
