The cardiologist drew attention to the amount of red meat that can be eaten without the risk of developing heart pathologies.
The doctor emphasized that the amount of red meat in the diet that is safe for health should not exceed 350-500 grams per week. At the same time, it is better not to eat processed meat products at all due to the high salt content, which narrows blood vessels and causes fluid retention in the body. The most dangerous for the heart are sausages and smoked meats made from processed meat.
Red meat also contains trimethylamine oxide, a substance that provokes inflammatory processes. The highest levels of this substance are found in beef, lamb, and pork.
Pavlyuchenko explained why you shouldn't eat a lot of red meat. According to her, red meat contains a high level of saturated fatty acids. Due to their excess in the blood, the level of “bad” low-density cholesterol increases, which provokes the formation of atherosclerotic plaques on the walls of blood vessels, interferes with normal blood circulation, and leads to heart attacks or strokes.
The doctor also noted that it is better to eat stewed or boiled meat and choose low-fat varieties. It is better not to eat fried meat because of the crust that forms, which contains carcinogens.
