How poor nutrition affects blood vessels

Over the past few decades, the number of people suffering from obesity has been steadily increasing. Currently, obesity is considered one of the leading causes of death in the world. The development of obesity is mostly associated with an unhealthy diet and lifestyle. But how does an unhealthy diet affect a person's blood vessels?

A team of scientists led by Bilal Sheikh from the Helmholtz Institute for Metabolism, Obesity and Vascular Research at the University of Munich Helmholtz Institute and the Medical Faculty of Leipzig University found out how obesity affects the state of blood vessels at the molecular level.

The results of this study showed that metabolic diseases (diseases related to metabolism) have different effects on blood vessels.

For example, blood vessels in adipose tissue and in the liver in metabolic diseases begin to have difficulty processing excess lipids. In the kidney vessels, metabolic dysfunction can develop, and in the lung vessels, severe inflammation can occur.

In addition, the transport of substances associated with the vessels of the brain is disrupted.

This study showed that due to harmful eating habits, a person can later develop various diseases. In addition, it became known that a healthy diet can improve the condition of blood vessels at the molecular level, but only partially.

For example, blood vessels in the liver were almost completely restored, but the vessels in the kidneys remained severely damaged, despite weight loss and proper nutrition.
