How sleep habits affect your weight

It has been scientifically proven that lack of sleep increases a person's likelihood of developing heart disease, diabetes, mental health problems, various injuries, decreased productivity, and death. In addition, lack of sleep is also associated with obesity, especially in children.
It is quite easy to understand how and why a person gains weight with excess sleep: they simply move little. And less obvious is the appearance of extra pounds when you don't get enough sleep.
Scientific studies have shown that people who didn't sleep well had increased levels of ghrelin and decreased levels of leptin in their bodies.
Ghrelin is a hormone that makes you feel hungry. Leptin, on the other hand, sends a signal to the brain that you are full.
That is, if you don't get enough sleep, you will feel hungrier during the day.
To improve the quality and quantity of your sleep, try these things. Pay attention to what you drink (it is better to avoid caffeine in the afternoon; alcohol also worsens sleep), when you eat (if you eat right before bed, it can cause a feeling of fullness or heartburn, which will make it difficult to fall asleep), physical exercise before bed (avoid watching TV, sitting at a smartphone, or exercising before going to bed), and physical activity in general (thanks to such activity during the day, you will sleep better at night).
