How to apologize for behavior in Ukrainian: I'm sorry or I'm sorry
0
The Ukrainian language is rich on synonyms, including those related to apologies. However, we often use the wrong forms of words or phrases.
How to apologize correctly?
When asking someone to apologize, you should use the verb “sorry” in combination with a pronoun in the dative case.
Correct:
- Excuse me.
- I apologize .
- Forgive me.
- Excuse me, please.
- I apologize.
Why “sorry me” is a mistake?
The part “-sya” in the verb “I'm sorry” means “myself”. Using this form, we seem to forgive ourselves, which, of course, does not correspond to the real meaning.
Use “sorry” with the dative case of the pronoun. Instead of “I'm sorry,” use other, correct phrases.
Remember, earlier we wrote about Ukrainian words that are mistaken for surzhyk.
