How to care for a petunia to enjoy lush flowering before frost
1
Petunia is an unpretentious and spectacular annual. It is rarely used as an indoor plant: the air in the apartment is often too dry and hot, and there is not enough sunlight. But on the balcony and on the street, it is easier to create favorable conditions for the growth and development of the plant. With regular watering and fertilizing, the flowers will bloom until the very frosts.
Feed petunia regularly
Petunia is quite voracious and responds well to fertilizers. Without regular fertilizing, it will be difficult to achieve flowering and magnificence of the bush. The best option is to feed the petunia weekly with a complex mineral fertilizer with an even distribution of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium – for example, 20:20:20.
Root and foliar feeding can be alternated. Fertilize the moist soil for one week so as not to burn the roots. And after 7 days, spray on the leaves in the evening so that the sunlight does not cause the leaves to burn.
Take care of the flowers properly
You need to water an adult petunia in the same way as a seedling – in moderation drying of the soil. When growing in hanging pots in the heat, this will most likely have to be done every day. By the way, try to place them in the sun to provide the plants with enough light.
But you can not worry about the fight against weeds: lush petunia bushes simply do not give a chance to fully develop.
Trim the petunia
With the help of a haircut, you can give the plant the desired shape, if you shorten the shoots that are too long. From this procedure, the petunia will bush and produce more buds. Also try to remove faded flowers. This is necessary so that the plant does not spend energy on ripening seeds. And if in the middle of summer you cut off all the old shoots along the contour of the pot, the petunia will quickly grow fresh green mass and delight with bright flowering until the autumn frosts.
