Sometimes, even a rich harvest of tomatoes disappoints a gardener. The fact is that not only the quantity, but also the quality of the fruits is important. It's bad when there are a lot of tomatoes, but they do not differ in integrity. The presence of a large number of cracks does not allow using vegetables for some culinary purposes.
Of course, the fruits will easily act as an ingredient for a vegetable salad. But it is hardly possible to can such tomatoes. To prevent unpleasant consequences, it is important to understand the reasons for the appearance of cracks on vegetables.
Why do tomatoes crack?
The most common reason for tomatoes to lose their integrity is a large amount of water. Moreover, the danger is not so much the excess moisture itself, but a sharp change in the indicator.
So, if the soil has been dry for a long time, and then there is suddenly a lot of water (for example, as a result of precipitation), the tomatoes will quickly absorb the liquid and burst.
How to prevent this
The soil should not be allowed to become dry. To do this, the soil must be constantly moistened.
However, most summer residents will not be able to constantly monitor the condition of the soil cover in the garden where tomatoes are grown.
Sometimes the soil will still dry out. And then you should water it repeatedly. But with interruptions, otherwise the humidity level will increase sharply, and this cannot be allowed.
