How to get rid of bitterness in onions

Have you ever experienced that the onion in the salad is too bitter and interrupts other tastes? This problem is familiar to many, but there is a simple way to make onions tender and pleasant to the taste.

  • Soaking in cold water. After slicing the onion, put it in a bowl of cold water for 10-15 minutes. This will help to get rid of some of the bitterness, and the onion will become more crispy and milder in taste.
  • Pour with boiling water. Chopped onions can be poured with boiling water for a few seconds, then immediately rinsed with cold water. This method will help remove sharpness and bitterness, but the onion will retain its structure.
  • Add salt and vinegar. After slicing, sprinkle the onion with salt and sprinkle with a little vinegar or lemon juice. Leave for a few minutes and then rinse with cold water. This will not only remove the bitterness, but also give the onions a nice sweet and sour taste.
  • Soaking in sweet water. If you don't want to use vinegar, try soaking the onions in sweet water (water with sugar) for 10 minutes. This will reduce the bitterness and soften the taste.
