It is impossible to look at a whole cloud of small annoying midges flying over pots. But do not rush to grab various sprays and water the soil in flowers with chemicals. Floriculture experts told what needs to be done to eliminate the problem:
- Most often, midges appear due to excessive humidity. You need to reduce watering and let the soil dry out between waterings.
- There are definitely midge offspring in the upper layers of the substrate. If you periodically loosen the soil, this will not give them the opportunity to reproduce.
- Diatomaceous earth is a natural insecticide. Sprinkle it on the top layer of soil so that the midges do not reproduce.
- If necessary, replace the top layer of soil. Just 3-4 cm should be cleaned, removed and covered with fresh soil.
