How to get rid of weeds with salt and vinegar

Weeds are a common problem that occurs on absolutely any plot. Every year, summer residents spend a lot of effort on fighting weeds. Using chemicals is not always safe, so it is better to use folk methods.

Weed control on the plot

Weeds deprive useful garden crops of moisture and useful components. In some cases, weeds become a source of diseases or pests.

There are many different herbicides on the market today that provide effective weed control. However, many well-known drugs can harm humans or the environment.

It is better to start weed control with folk methods. They will cause less harm, but will also help to effectively get rid of the problem. The best folk methods of control include the use of salt and vinegar. The composition and mechanism of action of these agents are similar to herbicides:

  1. When vinegar gets on the leaves, it can burn out cell membranes, which leads to gradual drying;
  2. Vinegar can stop photosynthesis. Due to this, the grass dies much faster;
  3. The substance can affect both the stems and the root system, which improves the effectiveness of the fight;

Experienced gardeners sometimes mix vinegar with salt. This mixture accelerates the wilting of weeds.

Using salt

This powerful tool is also suitable for weed control. In this case, the mechanism of action of salt is more pronounced. It is enough to simply sprinkle salt on a certain area and wait for the weeds to dry.

However, the tool is not recommended for use on beds. After rain, it will remain in the soil and can harm not only weeds, but also other plants on the site. Salt is great for eliminating weeds near the fence or on garden paths.

Vinegar for weed control

This tool is in every home and will help fight unwanted vegetation on the site. Vinegar contains acids that can completely burn plant cells. Due to this property, vinegar is excellent for fighting weeds.

At the same time, acetic acid is relatively safe for humans or animals.

Experts claim that the mechanism of action of vinegar is similar to popular herbicides. However, it should be borne in mind that vinegar is also capable of destroying the cells of cultivated plants. In order not to harm other plants, it is necessary to carry out spot spraying. It is recommended to carry out the treatment in the active phase of weed growth.

Herbicidal soap

To prepare this solution, you need to take 150 g of salt, a liter of vinegar and a large syringe of liquid soap. These components must be added to the container and mixed well. The finished solution can be watered or sprayed on weeds in the area.

The soap in the composition ensures better adhesion of the solution to the leaves, which increases the effectiveness of combating unwanted vegetation in the summer cottage. It is better to carry out the treatment in sunny weather, since moisture on the leaves will prevent the solution from adhering.
