Diet is known to play a key role in healthy aging. According to doctors, it is not necessary to strictly limit your diet, the main thing is to eat a balanced diet. However, one food may be particularly beneficial when it comes to longevity – the walnut.
Studies have shown that it contains bioactive compounds, antioxidants and fatty acids that may help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, and preserve the structure and function of the brain, said nutritionist Sian Porter.
For example, scientists at Harvard Health found that more frequent consumption of walnuts may be associated with a lower risk of death from all causes and increased life expectancy among older people.
“The results of another epidemiological project showed that women aged 50 to 60 who consumed at least two servings of walnuts per week had a better chance of healthy aging compared to those who didn't eat,” added Porter. In addition, the inclusion of walnuts in the diet improves the health of the cardiovascular system, which in itself is a risk factor for neurodegenerative diseases, the nutritionist noted.
