How to live longer: Eye health determines how long you live
0 < p>Your eyes can determine how long you live, new research shows, and it's more than a correlation.
Your eyes often give away your feelings, the most obvious example being tears. However, emotions aren't the only insight your eyes offer. A study suggests that eye health may have a direct relationship to how long you live.
The relationship between diet, circadian rhythms, eye health and life expectancy. Our research suggests that this is more than a correlation: dysfunction in the eye can actually cause problems in other tissues. Now scientists have explained that fasting not only improves eyesight, but actually affects life expectancy.
The explanation for this connection lies in circadian “clocks,” molecular mechanisms inside every cell in every organism that have evolved to adapt to daily stresses, such as changes in light and temperature caused by sunrise and sunset.
These 24-hour patterns – circadian rhythms – influence complex animal behaviors such as predator-prey interactions and sleep cycles/wakefulness, up to the fine-tuning of the temporal regulation of the molecular functions of gene transcription and protein translation.
