Fitness expert, specialist in health and wellness Emma Goodman-Horn told in an interview what details in nutrition people over 60 can help extend their healthy years.
“When it comes to being over 60, nutrition and exercise are two of the most important things to watch out for. For example, you should refuse as often as possible ready-made products that undergo intensive processing and contain additives such as artificial flavors, dyes, thickeners.”
Here is what else the specialist advises people over 60.
Increase fiber intake – it improves digestion, reduces the frequency of constipation, reduces the risk of diabetes. At the same time, you cannot consume too much fiber at one time. It is necessary to slowly increase its amount in the diet and drink enough water.
Another expert advice is to use more spices: for example, add turmeric to dishes more often. According to Goodman-Horn, turmeric increases immune function, reduces joint inflammation.
Goodman-Horn noted that at the age of 60, it is very important for the body to get enough calcium – this ensures the prevention of bone weakening, as well as falls. You should consume a sufficient amount of calcium from milk, cheese, or yogurt.
In addition, the expert advised people over 60 to more carefully control their salt intake – too large doses lead to high blood pressure.
